Waithood’s inaugural issue results from a collaboration between 14 artists, writers, thinkers and makers from various parts of the African continent and the diaspora, interested in speculation, as well as deeply involved in the calculation of the required labour to imagine futures otherwise. The issue proposes many reflections around the idea of “rest” in relation to the precarities and impossibilities the world presents to black and brown beings in the world.
We paid special attention not only to what we write and share but also to how we write and guard the writing, and as a result we mobilised the graphic design with a special code inspired by the geometrical partners of gipasti, the making of baskets and handbags by Tonga weavers in central Mozambique. May these readings be protected.
We hope you feel at home and spend some time resting in between the pages.
